Chateau de la Selve (Benoit and Florence Chazallon) - Ardèche - Southern Rhone
organic - biodynamic - biodyvin - vegan - Low sulphite - delicious wine
Originally "Château de la Selve" was a stronghold on the borders of the Empire and the Kingdom of France. It was then the hunting relay of an illustrious Vivarais family, the dukes of Joyeuse, before becoming over the centuries a farm.
Dating from the 13th century, its architecture is typical of the houses or castles of Bas-Vivarais. Located on the banks of the Chassezac, main tributary of the Ardèche, it enjoys an exceptional and protected environment. In 1990, this magnificent home became the property of Benoît's parents and the castle then finds a family and tourist destination.
Benoît and Florence, the winemakers
In 2002, Benoît, just graduated from the Beaune wine school, realizes his dream: to create this wine estate in the South of Ardèche where he is certain that the terroir has a great potential: its hot sun and its cool nights, its wild landscapes, its calcareous soils that smell of scrubland, humus, truffle ...!
Benoît and his wife Florence practice an organic and biodynamic culture that preserves the environment and lets the land really express itself. They are constantly looking for the vines, soils always more alive and, in the cellar of ever more pure wines.
